How will testing work?

The test was done over the phone with a proctor in California.  The proctor will give a vignette 1st, then acts as the doctor and give you the question for the patient in English. You translate, then repeat it back over the phone in Spanish. Then the proctor acts as the patient and replies in Spanish. You translate, and repeat it back over the phone in English, and so on. Once or twice, you will be allowed time to consult a dictionary or write, provided that you narrated something like "One moment please, while I consult my dictionary," but doing so more than a couple of times hurt your score.

 

How are you evaluated?

You are graded on accuracy, vocabulary and grammar skills, and overall fluency.

Passing scores are difficult to attain.  

What is the cost?

The total cost of the examination cannot be disclosed by Amigos online.  Amigos members are eligible to apply to our scholarship program.  If the member's application is accepted and signed by the board, Amigos will provide partial reimbursement if the student passes the exam and meets the requirements of the agreement.  For a passing score, the estimated cost to the student will be $50 for 2008-2009.
